Student Leadership
Student Leadership
At Temasek Primary, we believe every student has the potential to influence others positively, to lead with heart and serve with pride, and uphold the school values in their daily actions. Leadership is not just about holding a position; it’s about making a difference. We aim to nurture leaders with character.
Each leadership role in our school is purposefully designed with clear responsibilities. Student leaders are thoughtfully selected and provided with targeted training such as basic leadership training, peer support leaders training, and CCA leaders training to help them grow in confidence and carry out their duties effectively. They are given real opportunities to practise leadership skills - whether through leading school events, serving their peers, or initiating meaningful projects.
We take a whole-school approach to developing our student leaders. Teachers and staff work closely with students, offering support, guidance, and platforms for leadership in both formal and informal settings. Along the way, we make it a point to affirm and recognise our leaders for their contributions, knowing that encouragement plays a vital role in their growth.
Through this nurturing environment, we aim to develop every Temasekian into a servant leader — one who is rooted in values, confident in action, and ready to learn, lead, and serve both the school and the wider community.
Events and Projects
Community Festive Outreach
Each year, we will guide our student leaders in the planning and organization of Community Outreach events to spread festive joy to the community. This is also an opportunity for our students to hone their communication skills, heighten their social awareness and sense of belonging to the community. Throughout the year, our Prefects take the lead in engaging the student population’s participation in this meaningful event. Teachers and students reach out to the community during Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, National Day and Deepavali.
Temasek S.H.A.R.E.S.
(Spreading Happiness And Regifting Essentials Selflessly)
To nurture our student leaders in living out the school values, our Head Prefect from 2024, Genevieve Wang, initiated the idea for our school to care for the elderly community. Thus, we introduced the Temasek S.H.A.R.E.S. — to encourage leading with compassion and purpose. This project provides a meaningful platform for students to rally the school community to a common cause.
In this initiative, our student leaders take the lead in encouraging staff and students to donate useful items such as groceries, which are then distributed to those in need. In 2025, under the leadership of our then Head Prefect, Sophia Chan, the school came together to collect donated items for Lions’ Home for the Elders (Bedok). Our Prefects then delivered these items to the elderly residents and interacted meaningfully with them by spending time and putting up performances for them. This was truly a heartwarming experience that reminds us all of the power of service, empathy and student initiative.
Leaders’ Investiture
At our school, we believe in growing student leaders who lead with heart and serve with pride. One keyway we invest in them is by guiding and supporting them so they can contribute meaningfully to the school community.
Each year, we gather as a school to recognize and affirm the efforts of our Student Leaders at the Leaders’ Investiture. It is a special occasion that marks not only their appointment, but also the trust we place in them to be role models for their peers.
Through this Leaders’ Investiture, we aim to:
-
Recognise and affirm our Student Leaders for their service and contribution to the school
-
Honour our Primary 6 Student Leaders as they achieve a milestone in their leadership journey
-
Welcome our Primary 5 Student Leaders as they progress to be the senior Student Leaders in the school, and
-
Congratulate all Student Leaders on their appointment
Student Leadership Training
To help our student leaders understand their roles in influencing positive change, we provide a range of leadership training programmes designed to equip them with the mindset and skills needed to lead effectively.
These programmes include a mix of online modules and instructor-led workshops tailored to their leadership roles. Through these experiences, our students learn essential 21st-century competencies such as communication, teamwork, decision-making and empathy.
Leadership Development Workshop
Primary 3 to 6 Prefects, as well as Primary 5 and 6 CCA Leaders, attend leadership workshops to strengthen leadership skills, boost their confidence, and promote effective teamwork.
